the book is going

Today's Guardian suggests to me that the book format as such is soon going to change. As written about already in my readG blog.

That is "the book" as a continuous text, assumed to be read in sequence as published. I think this now happens very rarely. Skip through the contents or index and find something to start with. Is fiction all that different? I doubt it.

Books as in printed pages will continue but as spun off from the mess that is the web. Mess as in popup ads, still very annoying.

Sony have announced a new Reader with support for EPUB and Adobe Digital Editions. More on this later.

Imagining 2010

I have started a web page at InXpress about the "Going of the Book". This is set in 2010 so is imagined. Could be a useful way to define things as if they have happened. At the moment I am still puzzled as to what Adobe is trying to do but things could be clearer later. The Postscript / PDF phase is more or less over from a technical point of view.
